Apple reports that two cutouts will appear as one and look like one wide pill-shaped cutout when the screen is turned on.
Apple’s next-generation flagship iPhone 14 series is just six days away and will launch on September 7th. The lineup is expected to consist of two non-Pro and two Pro iPhone 14 models. As per leaks and rumours, the latter is said to come with a redesigned notch i.e. with a hole-punch and pill-shaped cutouts.
Now, in the latest development as per MacRumours citing an anonymous tipster, the iPhone 14 Pro’s dual cutouts on the display could appear as one long pill-shaped cutout. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also corroborated the report.
The rumour about the latest development is said to have originated from Foxconn employees, one of Apple’s manufacturing partners involved in the production of the iPhone 14 Pro. As mentioned earlier, the Pro variants will come with a pill-shaped cutout on the left side and a punch-hole cutout beside it. A small space between them will separate both. The cutouts will accommodate Apple’s facial recognition system and a front camera sensor.
MacRumors reports that the two cutouts will appear as one and look like one wide pill-shaped cutout when the screen is turned on. Apple seems to have turned off the pixels from the display’s negative space. The report also claims that the areas between the cutouts will be reserved for displaying privacy indicators that arrived on iOS 14. It will show the microphone and video cameras actively (green and orange dots) actively being used by an app on the device. Bloomberg’s Gurman also said that the separation would look odd during use and the wide pill-shaped cutout will be less obtrusive while consuming content.
Additionally, MacRumours source states that the camera layout is also expected to be updated. The flash and live photo button will be located in the status bar while other settings will be located below the cutout. The expanded cutout could also show pixels while receiving notifications.
