BYD Begins Deliveries of Yangwang U7 – A 1,287 HP Electric Luxury Sedan to Rival BMW and Nio

BYD, the undisputed leader in the global electric vehicle market, has officially commenced deliveries of the Yangwang U7, the latest luxury electric sedan from its ultra-premium sub-brand.

The Yangwang U7 EV is now hitting showrooms across China, signaling BYD’s aggressive push into the high-end electric vehicle segment. With this model, BYD aims to challenge established players like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Nio, solidifying its presence from the mass market to the luxury tier.
Design and Dimensions
The U7 is a full-size sedan boasting imposing dimensions: 5,265 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and 1,517 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,160 mm. It’s sized to sit perfectly between the BMW i7 and i5, offering a spacious and luxurious cabin in either four-seat or five-seat configurations.
Powertrain and Performance
Available as both a battery electric vehicle (BEV) and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), the U7 rides on BYD's new e4 platform, featuring four independent electric motors (one per wheel), each producing 240 kW. Combined, they deliver an astonishing 960 kW (1,287 hp) and 1,584 Nm of torque.

This immense power enables the U7 to launch from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds—hypercar territory for a luxury sedan. Although slightly slower than the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, the U7’s larger size and weight explain the gap.
Ride and Comfort: DiSus-Z Suspension
To match its performance with comfort, BYD has equipped the U7 with its most advanced DiSus-Z active suspension system. Designed to ensure a smooth, stable, and quiet ride, this system continuously adjusts the suspension for optimal handling, comfort, and road feel.
Pricing and Competition
Starting at RMB 628,000 (approx. €78,800), the Yangwang U7 directly competes with local rivals like the Nio ET9 and Maextro S800. Despite its ultra-luxury positioning, the U7 is the most affordable vehicle in the Yangwang lineup—underpricing the U8 SUV (RMB 1.098 million) and U9 supercar (RMB 1.68 million).

Market Debut and Sales
In May, Yangwang sold 33 units of the U7, contributing to a total of 139 vehicles sold across the brand. While volumes remain small, BYD is positioning Yangwang as a low-volume, high-impact luxury brand rather than a mass-market contender.

With the U7, BYD showcases not just its manufacturing dominance, but its ability to innovate and redefine expectations in the luxury EV space.
