MediaTek Dimensity 8450 Debuts with Minor Upgrades, First Spotted in Oppo Reno14 Pro
MediaTek has officially unveiled the Dimensity 8450, a mild refresh of the Dimensity 8400 launched in December 2024. While the name suggests an upgrade, changes are largely under the hood, focusing on performance tuning, AI enhancements, and power efficiency.
The new chipset retains the same TSMC second-gen 4nm process and octa-core CPU architecture, consisting of:
1x Cortex-X4 core at 3.25GHz
3x Cortex-A720 cores at 3.0GHz
4x Cortex-A520 cores at 2.1GHz
The Mali-G720 MC7 GPU remains unchanged in hardware but now runs MediaTek’s new StarSpeed Engine, aimed at smoother gaming and better frame stability.
On the imaging front, the updated ISP supports up to 320MP sensors and zero-lag HDR video. Live-streaming capabilities are also improved, making it ideal for content creators.
The NPU 880 integrates the new Agentic AI Engine, enabling on-device Generative AI (GenAI) and LLM (large language model) processing.
Finally, the 5G modem now features UltraSave 3.0+ technology, which reduces power draw during mobile data usage — a key feature for extending battery life.
The Oppo Reno14 Pro is the first device confirmed to use the Dimensity 8450, and more upper mid-range smartphones are expected to adopt it in the coming weeks.
