Volkswagen ID. Buzz AD: Autonomous EV Robotaxi Launches Globally in 2025 with MOIA and Uber

Volkswagen is entering the autonomous vehicle arena with the ID. Buzz AD, a production-ready self-driving electric van set for global deployment in 2025. Unlike consumer-focused self-driving features, the ID. Buzz AD is a full-fledged robotaxi solution aimed at businesses and city services.
Built on a Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) platform from VW's ride-pooling arm MOIA, this autonomous van arrives fully equipped—with 27 sensors (13 cameras, 9 LiDARs, 5 radars)—and meets SAE Level 4 autonomy standards. Its brain is powered by Mobileye’s AI, enabling the van to handle complex urban environments, including interactions with emergency vehicles.
The ID. Buzz AD skips the steering wheel for public operations and features four passenger seats and a luggage rack. With built-in fleet management AI, it offers a turnkey robotaxi service that businesses can quickly deploy without heavy R&D.
In the U.S., Uber and MOIA will roll out thousands of ID. Buzz robotaxis, starting with Los Angeles in 2025. MOIA is already operating electric ride-pooling in Hanover and Hamburg, showing this concept is more than just a prototype—it's real, and it's scaling.
