Kia EV5 Officially Unveiled for Europe: 530km Range, AWD Variant Coming, and Sub-€47K Price Target
Kia has officially pulled the wraps off its new EV5 electric SUV for Europe, marking a major milestone in its electrification strategy across the region. Designed to go head-to-head with EV heavyweights like the Tesla Model Y and Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Kia EV5 brings a bold new design, a lounge-like interior, and a promising spec sheet tailored to European customers.
New Powertrain and Long-Range Battery
Unlike the Chinese version that uses a BYD LFP Blade battery, the European-spec EV5 comes with a larger 81.4 kWh NMC battery. This upgrade enables a WLTP-rated range of up to 530 km, making it a compelling choice for family SUV buyers who prioritize range.
The EV5 will launch in base and GT-Line trims, both featuring a 160 kW (215 hp) front-wheel-drive motor and 295 Nm of torque. But there's more on the horizon: Kia has confirmed an all-wheel-drive (AWD) version is in the pipeline. Expected to mirror the Australian GT-Line AWD variant, it will feature dual motors delivering 230 kW and 480 Nm, and sprint from 0–100 km/h in just over 6 seconds.
Fast Charging and V2L Capability
The EV5 supports DC fast charging, capable of charging from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes, reducing downtime on long trips. It also offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) support, letting you power external devices (up to 3.6 kW)—perfect for camping or emergencies.
Size and Styling
At 4,610 mm long, 1,875 mm wide, and 1,675 mm tall, the EV5 is slightly more compact than the Tesla Model Y and fits snugly between Kia’s EV3 and EV6. The exterior features Kia's signature "Tiger Face" front-end and a boxy, upright profile inspired by the EV9.
Premium, Lounge-Like Interior
Inside, Kia describes the cabin as a “lounge-like environment,” prioritizing comfort with massaging, heated, and ventilated seats. The standout feature is the new ccNC infotainment system, with dual 12.3-inch displays and physical climate controls—striking a balance between tech and user-friendliness.
European Production & Price Estimates
European units will be manufactured in South Korea, not China, and will differ in hardware and software. While Kia hasn’t confirmed pricing yet, it’s expected to start below €47,000, making it a strong value proposition in its class. The pricing follows the positioning between the EV3 (€40,683) and the EV6 (€46,007), and aligns with the Australian EV5, which starts at approximately €31,600.
Kia also confirmed that while the EV5 will roll out in Europe, Canada, and other global markets, it won’t be sold in the U.S.
The Kia EV5 is shaping up to be a versatile, stylish, and family-friendly EV that delivers strong specs and premium features at a competitive price—clearly designed to make a splash in Europe’s crowded EV segment.
