MG Launches IM5 Sedan and IM6 SUV: Premium EVs Aimed at Tesla and Audi, Starting at €46,260
MG is no longer just a budget EV brand. At the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed, MG made a bold entrance into the premium electric vehicle space with the unveiling of the MG IM5 saloon and MG IM6 SUV. These high-tech models, launched under the new "Intelligence in Motion" (IM Motors) banner, mark MG's ambition to take on giants like Tesla, Audi, and BMW in the luxury EV segment.
The MG IM5, a sleek electric sedan, directly targets the Tesla Model 3. It features a low-drag aerodynamic design and cutting-edge specs. The base IM5 Standard model starts at €46,260 in the UK, undercutting the Model 3. It comes with a 75 kWh battery, while the Long Range version, priced at €52,761, gets a larger 100 kWh pack for up to 655 km of range. The flagship IM5 Long Range Performance version, priced at €57,452, delivers a 0–100 km/h time of just 3.2 seconds thanks to its dual-motor “Hurricane” setup.
All models use a state-of-the-art 800V architecture for ultra-fast charging—going from 10 to 80% in just 17 minutes. Inside, the tech-focused cabin boasts a massive 26.3-inch ultra-HD display, a 10.5-inch touchscreen, panoramic roof, 20-speaker surround system, and advanced driver aids including rear-wheel steering and One Touch Park Assist.
For SUV lovers, the larger MG IM6 shares the same platform and tech as the IM5 but adds more space and height. It launches with a 100 kWh battery in three variants:
IM6 Long Range – €56,279
IM6 Performance – €59,797
IM6 Launch Edition – €62,142
By absorbing IM Motors from parent company SAIC, MG bypassed years of R&D and fast-tracked its move into the high-end EV market. With the IM5 and IM6, MG has signaled a major brand transformation—one aimed at competing not just on price, but on performance, luxury, and innovation.
