Sony Pulls Xperia Phones from Finland, Focuses on Online Sales Amid European Market Exit
Sony is quietly scaling back its smartphone operations in Europe, starting with Finland. According to Finnish tech outlet Suomimobiili, Sony has officially confirmed that its latest flagship, the Xperia 1 VII, will not be sold in Finland — either through its website or local retail partners.
A quick glance at Sony Finland’s online store and its partner sites reveals that the Xperia 1 VII is already unavailable, and sources say it's expected to remain that way. In response to inquiries, Sony stated it is shifting its sales strategy toward online shopping platforms to offer customers a more streamlined purchasing experience.
Currently, the Xperia 1 VII 5G (256GB, 12GB RAM) is available through Sony’s official online store and Amazon — but only in select European countries, notably the UK and Germany. Other major EU markets do not list the device, signaling a broader withdrawal of Xperia smartphones across the region.
The company emphasized it is still committed to supporting current Xperia customers, promising ongoing maintenance and software updates. However, with the Xperia 1 VII also facing issues in Sony’s home market of Japan, the brand’s smartphone future appears increasingly uncertain.
Sony’s full statement to Suomimobiili reads:
> “The Xperia 1 VII is not available for purchase directly through Sony in Finland. However, we are constantly assessing market profitability and customer demand. We are currently focusing on online shopping channels to provide our customers with a smoother purchasing process. Currently, the Xperia 1 VII can be purchased directly from Sony's official online store and through Amazon in selected European markets. Sony remains committed to fulfilling all maintenance and upgrade obligations for existing customers as usual.”
The Sony Xperia 1 VII currently retails for £1,396.48, positioning it in the ultra-premium smartphone category.
