Vauxhall Revives GSe Badge with All-Electric Mokka GSe: A 280hp Hot Hatch SUV for the EV Era
Vauxhall is bringing serious performance back to its lineup — but with an electric twist. The iconic GSe badge is making a comeback, and this time, it’s exclusively for high-performance electric vehicles. The first model to carry the reborn nameplate? The all-new Vauxhall Mokka GSe, a thrilling take on the compact electric SUV.
This isn’t just a visual refresh. The Mokka GSe doubles down on performance, packing a 280hp electric motor that delivers 345 Nm of torque to the front wheels. That translates to a 0–100 km/h time of just 5.9 seconds, pushing the Mokka firmly into hot hatch territory, despite its SUV body.
Sharing its electric underpinnings with other Stellantis Group EVs like the Abarth 600e and Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica Veloce, the Mokka GSe doesn’t hold back. It features a Torsen limited-slip differential, a redesigned rear axle with stiffer bushings, and an 189% increase in rear torsional stiffness for sharper cornering performance.
Further upgrades include:
Hydraulic bump-stop dampers, borrowed from rally technology
380mm Alcon front brake discs with four-piston calipers
Heavily weighted steering for improved driver feedback
20-inch alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport EV tires
Despite the performance boost, Vauxhall has kept weight under control, with the GSe tipping the scales at under 1,600 kg. It uses the same 54 kWh battery as the standard Mokka Electric, which offers up to 398 km of range. However, real-world range for the GSe variant is likely closer to 322 km, based on similar setups in sibling models.
Visually, the GSe doesn’t shy away from its sporty intentions. The exterior gets neon yellow highlights and gloss black bumpers, while the interior adds Alcantara-trimmed sports seats and a G-force meter on the infotainment system.
While UK pricing hasn’t been confirmed, expect the Mokka GSe to slot just below its more premium cousins. Given that the Abarth 600e starts at €46,769 and the Alfa Junior Elettrica Veloce at €49,607, a price tag just under €47,000 for the Mokka GSe seems likely.
With the return of GSe, Vauxhall is signaling its intent to dominate the performance EV space, blending affordability, aggressive styling, and true driving fun.
