Davido Fires Back at Reno Omokri as World Cup Advocacy Sparks Heated Debate

A public clash has erupted between Afrobeats superstar Davido and former presidential aide Reno Omokri over the singer’s advocacy for abducted schoolchildren during a FIFA World Cup countdown concert in Los Angeles.
The controversy began after Davido appeared on stage wearing a custom jacket displaying the names of more than 40 schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oyo State, alongside the message, “Bring Them Home.” The gesture drew widespread attention and praise from supporters who viewed it as a powerful call for action.

However, Reno Omokri criticized the move, arguing that highlighting kidnappings and terrorist activities on a global platform could unintentionally promote fear and give publicity to criminal groups.

In response, Davido took to Instagram and shared a video of Omokri, accompanying it with a harsh caption that quickly went viral.

Reacting to the singer's comments, Omokri expressed disappointment, stating that the language used by the award-winning musician was inappropriate for someone of his international stature. While acknowledging Davido’s good intentions, Omokri maintained that publicizing such incidents on a global stage could complicate rescue efforts and indirectly benefit terrorists.

The former presidential aide contrasted Davido’s advocacy with American streamer IShowSpeed’s appearance at the same event, noting that the content creator used the platform to promote Nigeria positively.

Citing former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s famous quote that “publicity is the oxygen of terrorism,” Omokri defended his position and urged Davido to reconsider the broader implications of his actions.

As of the time of reporting, Davido and his representatives have not issued any further response, leaving the debate to continue across social media and among Nigerians at home and abroad.
