General Rabe’s Tragic End: Tinubu Vows No Mercy for Terrorists
“No Deals With Terrorists”: Tinubu Reacts as General Rabe Dies in Captivity
Retired Major General Abubakar Rabe was reportedly travelling to his hometown when he and his wife were abducted by armed hoodlums.
A week after their capture, the kidnappers released a video showing the couple in captivity. In the footage, the bandits demanded the release of three of their members being held by security agencies in exchange for the victims' freedom.
Similarly, terrorists who abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State were also reported to have demanded the release of some of their detained members before freeing their captives.
However, President Bola Tinubu has firmly rejected any form of negotiation with terrorists. In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President declared that the government would never bow to the demands of criminal groups.
“While the terrorists have done their worst, the President wants them to know that the government will never bow to their demand to release their members,” the statement read.
Tinubu reiterated his earlier warning that bandits, kidnappers, and sponsors of terrorism must surrender or face the full force of the law, stressing that no mercy would be shown to those who continue to endanger innocent lives.
Describing General Rabe’s death as a painful loss, the President said the tragedy should strengthen Nigeria’s resolve to fight terrorism without compromise. He maintained that terrorists remain enemies of the nation and should never be rewarded through negotiations.
The President also sympathized with the family of the late General, especially his wife, who remains in captivity, and extended his condolences to the Katsina State Government and the Nigerian Armed Forces.
