Awka, Anambra State – The Governor of Anambra State, Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has announced a temporary statewide lockdown scheduled for Saturday, July 4, 2026, as part of a massive environmental sanitation and waste evacuation campaign.
According to the directive, all residents must remain indoors from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM to enable a compulsory cleanup exercise aimed at improving environmental hygiene across the state.
Governor Soludo stressed that maintaining a clean environment is not just a civic responsibility but a matter of survival, declaring:
> "The environment is our existential threat."
The governor urged every household, business owner, and community to actively participate by clearing gutters, removing refuse, and ensuring their surroundings are clean during the four-hour exercise.
The sanitation campaign is part of the Anambra State Government's broader effort to promote public health, prevent flooding, and create a cleaner, safer environment for all residents.
Authorities have advised citizens to fully comply with the restriction, noting that normal movement and commercial activities will resume immediately after 10:00 AM.
Residents are encouraged to use the opportunity to dispose of waste responsibly and contribute to making Anambra one of Nigeria's cleanest states.
Clean environment, healthy communities. Let's all do our part this Saturday.
