Nigerian National Arrested in India with MDMA Worth ₹30 Lakh: Ambala Police Bust Major Drug Network
Ambala, Haryana – In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Ambala Police has arrested a Nigerian national allegedly involved in supplying synthetic drugs across northern India. Authorities recovered 294 grams of MDMA, commonly known as Ecstasy, from the suspect's possession during a raid in Delhi.
Nigerian Citizen Arrested in Major Drug Bust
The accused has been identified as Mbacha Ikechukwu David, a Nigerian national who was reportedly residing in Delhi. According to Ambala Police, David was arrested following an intensive investigation into a heroin trafficking case that originated in Haryana.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Ambala DSP Jagbir Malik revealed that the operation began on June 19 when a team from the Anti-Narcotics Cell apprehended a Kurukshetra resident, Surinder, along with a female accomplice. The duo was allegedly transporting 55 grams of heroin from Delhi to Ambala on a two-wheeler.
A case was subsequently registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Parao Police Station.
Investigation Leads Police to Delhi-Based Supplier
During interrogation and police remand, the arrested suspects disclosed that they had procured the heroin from a Nigerian supplier operating in Delhi.
Acting on this crucial information, Ambala Police laid a trap and successfully arrested Mbacha Ikechukwu David. During a search of his rented accommodation in Delhi, officers recovered 294 grams of MDMA, a synthetic party drug with an estimated street value of approximately ₹30 lakh.
Study Visa Misused for Drug Trafficking?
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused had reportedly entered India on a student visa. However, police allege that instead of pursuing academic activities, he became involved in illegal drug distribution networks.
Authorities suspect that David may be linked to a larger interstate drug trafficking syndicate supplying narcotics to various regions across northern India.
Police Aim to Expose Entire Drug Network
DSP Jagbir Malik stated that investigators are now focused on identifying the accused's suppliers, associates, and customer network.
"The remand period will be used to gather information regarding the source of the drugs and the individuals involved in distribution. Our objective is to dismantle the entire narcotics network," Malik said.
Rising Concern Over Synthetic Drug Trafficking
The seizure highlights growing concerns over the circulation of synthetic drugs such as MDMA in India. Law enforcement agencies have intensified anti-drug operations in recent years as traffickers increasingly use interstate routes and urban centers to distribute narcotics.
The latest arrest is being viewed as a major success for Ambala Police's ongoing crackdown on drug-related crimes and organized narcotics trafficking.
