Akpabio Mocks PDP, Says Party Should Be Allowed to Die, Praises Wike's Performance in Abuja

Abuja, Nigeria – President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has stirred fresh political debate after declaring that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is no longer a viable political force, saying the opposition party should simply be "allowed to die."
Akpabio made the remarks on Wednesday during the commissioning of a newly completed road project in the Gaduwa District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Reacting to the emergence of a PDP candidate in a recent election, the Senate President expressed surprise that the opposition party was still active.

«"I didn't know there was still PDP. If a party has died, allow it to die," Akpabio said while addressing dignitaries and party supporters at the event.»

He further stated that he had no intention of commenting on the internal affairs of the PDP, insisting that the party had lost its relevance.

«"I won't discuss anything concerning the working committee of the PDP. Like I said, anything that has died has died," he added.»

Akpabio Showers Praise on Wike

Beyond his comments on the PDP, Akpabio reserved glowing praise for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, applauding his leadership and rapid infrastructure development across Abuja.

According to the Senate President, Wike's achievements have transformed the nation's capital and surpassed the performance of previous FCT administrations.

«"The performing Minister of the FCT has made his predecessors look like they came to Abuja just to drink tea. What you and President Bola Tinubu are doing is remarkable. People are amazed because both of you are performing what can only be described as miracles in Abuja," Akpabio stated.»

Political Reactions Expected

Akpabio's comments are expected to generate strong reactions across Nigeria's political landscape, particularly within the PDP, which remains one of the country's major opposition parties.

His remarks also highlight the growing political alliance between the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, a prominent politician who was elected on the PDP platform but has maintained close ties with the APC-led Federal Government.

As political activities ahead of future elections continue to intensify, statements from influential leaders like Akpabio are likely to fuel further debates over the strength and future of Nigeria's opposition parties.
