Borno State, Nigeria — Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have launched another devastating attack in Nigeria's North-East, leaving a trail of destruction in Logomani community, Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State.
The heavily armed insurgents stormed the community late Tuesday night after first attacking the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Logomani, where a fierce gun battle claimed the life of one Nigerian soldier.
After the military confrontation, the terrorists reportedly moved into the community, firing sporadically to force terrified residents to flee before setting critical public facilities ablaze.
Among the buildings destroyed were:
- A police outpost
- A primary healthcare centre
- Two classrooms at a primary school
Residents described the attack as one of the most coordinated assaults witnessed in recent months.
«"We all fled the community during the attack. The terrorists were heavily armed. After overpowering the soldiers, they entered the school and burnt two classrooms. They also destroyed the police outpost and the hospital," one resident said anonymously.»
Military Confirms Attack
The Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammed Goni, confirmed the incident in an official statement.
According to him, troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base successfully repelled the terrorists despite an intense firefight.
The military revealed that the insurgents briefly breached part of the base's defensive perimeter before soldiers regrouped and launched a powerful counteroffensive.
Security forces inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers, forcing the surviving terrorists to retreat with gunshot wounds.
However, the military confirmed that one gallant soldier paid the ultimate sacrifice, while two military gun trucks and several combat support assets were damaged during the battle.
Authorities added that reinforcements have since been deployed to the area, while clearance and pursuit operations continue to prevent another attack.
Local Authorities Assess Damage
Following the attack, the Executive Chairman of Ngala Local Government Council, Mala Tijjani Ngala, visited Logomani to inspect the destruction firsthand.
The chairman toured the burnt police station, healthcare facility, and damaged school before assuring residents that his findings would be forwarded to the Borno State Government for urgent intervention and reconstruction.
He also appealed for calm and urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies as operations against insurgents intensify.
Security Concerns Grow
The latest assault underscores the persistent security challenges facing communities across Borno State despite ongoing military offensives against Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters.
As security forces continue pursuit operations, many displaced residents remain uncertain about when they can safely return to their homes.
