Joy Reid Urges Maine Democrats to Reject Moderate Candidate, Says ‘Vote Blue No Matter Who’ Must End

Former MSNBC host Joy Reid has ignited fresh political debate after urging Democratic voters in Maine to reject any replacement candidate she believes does not reflect the party's progressive values.
Reid made the remarks while discussing the race to replace Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner, who withdrew from the contest against Republican Senator Susan Collins following a rape accusation that became the latest controversy surrounding his campaign.

According to Reid, Maine Democrats voted for a progressive candidate and should not accept a more moderate nominee.

"The people of Maine, the Democratic voters of Maine, said they want a progressive," Reid said. "They did not say they want an AIPAC moderate."

She also criticized the Democratic National Committee, arguing that voters should not automatically support any Democratic nominee if party leaders choose someone who differs significantly from the platform favored by primary voters.

"If the DNC shoves an AIPAC candidate down your throat, you have my permission to not vote for them," Reid said. "The Democratic Party needs to learn that it is not 'Vote blue no matter who.' It matters who."

Reid's comments have intensified the ongoing debate within the Democratic Party over whether candidates should prioritize ideological purity or broader electability in key Senate races.

With Democrats now searching for a new nominee to challenge Susan Collins, the Maine Senate race is expected to remain one of the most closely watched contests of the election cycle.
