Nigerian Troops Neutralise ISWAP Cameraman, Recover Footage Revealing Foreign Terrorist Operatives in Borno
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have dealt a significant blow to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) by neutralising a terrorist cameraman and recovering sensitive video footage that allegedly exposes the involvement of foreign terrorist facilitators operating within the insurgent group.
The successful military operation took place on Saturday, July 11, 2026, after ISWAP fighters attempted to infiltrate Cross Kauwa in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State under the cover of darkness.
ISWAP Attack Foiled by Nigerian Troops
According to the Acting Military Information Officer, Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammed Goni, vigilant troops detected the terrorists as they tried to breach military positions with the apparent aim of looting cholera medical supplies.
The soldiers responded with overwhelming firepower, forcing the terrorists to abandon their mission and retreat after suffering heavy casualties.
Sony Camcorder Reveals Foreign Terrorist Links
One of the most significant recoveries from the operation was a Sony camcorder belonging to a neutralised ISWAP cameraman.
Preliminary forensic analysis of the device reportedly uncovered operational footage, propaganda videos, and intelligence suggesting the presence of three foreign terrorist facilitators within the insurgent network.
According to the military:
A Palestinian identified as Abu Ishaq is believed to be ISWAP's chief trainer.
A Moroccan identified as Abu Thaiba reportedly serves as the group's medical doctor.
Another unidentified Arab operative also appeared in the recovered recordings.
Military authorities said the discovery reinforces intelligence assessments that ISWAP continues to benefit from foreign expertise and international terrorist connections.
Cholera Outbreak May Be Affecting Terrorist Camps
Capt. Goni stated that the terrorists' attempt to steal cholera medical supplies further supports recent intelligence reports indicating a cholera outbreak within ISWAP enclaves.
He added that intelligence sources have also reported that some infected terrorists were allegedly executed by the group.
Weapons and Military Equipment Recovered
Following the successful engagement, troops conducted exploitation operations across the area and recovered several items, including:
A Sony camcorder containing sensitive operational footage.
PKT ammunition.
7.62mm special ammunition.
Terrorist uniforms.
Other combat equipment.
Satellite imagery and credible human intelligence reportedly confirmed that ISWAP evacuated several bodies of slain fighters while withdrawing, with many others believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.
Two Nigerian Soldiers Injured
The military disclosed that two soldiers sustained gunshot injuries during the firefight.
Both personnel were immediately airlifted for advanced medical treatment and are currently reported to be in stable condition.
Operation Hadin Kai Reaffirms Commitment Against Terrorism
Operation Hadin Kai said the failed infiltration represents another major setback for ISWAP as military operations continue to intensify across Nigeria's North-East.
The military reiterated its commitment to sustaining offensive operations, dismantling terrorist networks, protecting vulnerable communities, and restoring lasting peace across the region.
