What the Numbers Mean
The latest VAT figures underscore the concentration of economic activities in a few key states, particularly Lagos, which continues to dominate Nigeria's commercial, financial, manufacturing, and technology sectors. Oil-producing states such as Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta also recorded strong performances, reflecting their contribution to the national economy.
Meanwhile, states with lower VAT collections may need to diversify their economies, attract more private investment, strengthen local industries, and improve the ease of doing business to boost internally generated economic activities.
