Ahead of the Northern States Governors' Forum meeting scheduled for Wednesday at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna, Secretaries to the State Governments (SSGs) from the 19 northern states have met to harmonise key issues for deliberation by their governors.
The strategic meeting, held on Tuesday at the General Hassan Usman Katsina Conference Hall, was aimed at developing a unified agenda that will guide discussions on security, education, economic growth and regional development.
Chairman of the Forum of Secretaries to the 19 Northern State Governments and Secretary to the Government of Gombe State, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, described the gathering as a significant step towards addressing the region's most pressing challenges.
According to a statement issued by Information Officer at the Gombe State Government House, Joshua Danmalam, Professor Njodi stressed the importance of collaboration among northern states to drive sustainable development despite the security challenges facing the region.

Speaking during the meeting, Professor Njodi acknowledged the persistent insecurity affecting northern Nigeria but praised the Secretaries to the State Governments for ensuring continuity in governance across their respective states.
«"This meeting is crucial to the development of northern Nigeria. Despite the persistent security challenges facing the region, you have continued to ensure the smooth running of government in your respective states," he said.»
He urged members of the forum to remain committed by contributing practical and innovative ideas that would help governors formulate effective policies capable of restoring peace, boosting economic development and improving the lives of citizens.
"I encourage all members to remain committed to this forum by participating actively and offering practical solutions that will assist our governors in tackling the region's challenges and advancing sustainable development," Njodi added.
New Yobe Acting SSG Makes First Appearance
The Gombe SSG also welcomed the Acting Secretary to the Yobe State Government, Dr. Mohammed Goje, who attended the forum for the first time following his recent appointment by Governor Mai Mala Buni.
Professor Njodi equally congratulated Professor Mua'azu Shehu, one of the forum's rapporteurs, on his appointment as the Head of the Civil Service in Gombe State.
Governors Expected to Review Security, Education and Economic Policies
The Northern States Governors' Forum, chaired by Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, regularly convenes to discuss major issues affecting the region, including insecurity, education, agriculture, infrastructure, youth empowerment and economic development.
Previous meetings have produced resolutions aimed at strengthening regional security through coordinated efforts against banditry, kidnapping and insurgency while also addressing poverty, unemployment and the growing number of out-of-school children across northern Nigeria.
At Wednesday's meeting in Kaduna, the governors are expected to assess the implementation of previous resolutions and consider fresh strategies to enhance peace, improve security, stimulate economic growth and promote sustainable development across the 19 northern states.
The outcome of the meeting is expected to shape future policies and collaborative actions designed to improve governance and accelerate development throughout northern Nigeria.
