Peter Obi Blasts Tinubu Over Silence on Ogbomoso School Abduction, Says President Failed to Call Governor Makinde After 50 Days

Description: Peter Obi criticizes President Bola Tinubu for allegedly failing to call Governor Seyi Makinde more than 50 days after the Ogbomoso school abduction, describing it as evidence of failed leadership and worsening insecurity.
Peter Obi has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over what he described as the President's shocking silence following the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

The former Anambra State governor and 2023 presidential candidate accused President Tinubu of failing to personally contact Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde more than 50 days after the tragic school kidnapping, calling the development a clear sign of failed leadership and worsening insecurity in Nigeria.

Obi Expresses Shock After Meeting Governor Makinde

Speaking in a statement released on Monday, Obi revealed that he visited Ibadan on Friday alongside renowned economist and political activist Pat Utomi to sympathize with Governor Makinde and the families of the kidnapped victims.

According to Obi, he assumed President Tinubu had been in constant communication with the Oyo governor regarding efforts to rescue the abducted pupils and teachers.

However, he said he was stunned to discover that no such call had ever been made.

«"To my utmost shock, Governor Seyi Makinde had not received a single call from President Bola Tinubu concerning the incident," Obi stated.»

He described the President's silence as deeply disturbing, arguing that Nigerians deserve compassionate and proactive leadership during moments of national tragedy.

Obi Compares Tinubu's Response to Previous Presidents

Drawing from his experience as Governor of Anambra State, Obi recalled how former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, and Goodluck Jonathan regularly contacted state governors whenever serious security incidents occurred.

According to him, previous administrations demonstrated empathy by maintaining direct communication with affected state governments during crises.

Obi argued that such leadership has been absent under the current administration.

Chibok Comparison Sparks Fresh Debate

The former presidential candidate also referenced the 2014 Chibok schoolgirls' abduction, noting that Bola Tinubu was among the loudest voices criticizing then-President Goodluck Jonathan over his handling of the tragedy.

Obi said it was ironic that Tinubu, who once demanded immediate presidential action during the Chibok crisis, had allegedly failed to reach out to Governor Makinde despite the Ogbomoso kidnapping lasting more than seven weeks.

He further claimed that Nigeria has recorded over 13 school kidnapping incidents under the current administration, raising serious concerns about the nation's security architecture.

"Governance Has Completely Collapsed" – Obi

Obi lamented the continued wave of kidnappings and insecurity across Nigeria, saying countless families now live in fear while many victims remain in captivity.

He insisted that protecting citizens, especially schoolchildren, should be the government's highest priority.

According to him, the prolonged silence from the Presidency reflects a lack of urgency, compassion, and effective leadership.

Obi stated that the worsening security situation has left many Nigerians feeling abandoned and questioned the administration's ability to address the country's growing challenges.

Obi Calls on Tinubu to Resign or Skip Re-election Bid

In one of his strongest criticisms yet, Obi said President Tinubu should consider resigning if he is unable to provide effective leadership capable of tackling Nigeria's security crisis.

Alternatively, he urged the President not to seek another term in office, insisting that the appeal was made in the interest of the nation rather than politics.

«"The President should either resign or, at the very least, abstain from seeking re-election for the sake of our dear country. This call is patriotic, not political," Obi declared.»

Growing Concerns Over Nigeria's Security Crisis

The Ogbomoso school abduction has intensified public concern over insecurity in Nigeria, with many citizens calling for faster government action to rescue the victims and strengthen security nationwide.

As pressure mounts on the Federal Government, the incident continues to fuel nationwide debate over leadership, accountability, and the country's ability to protect schools and vulnerable communities.
