Ryanair Flight Suffers Mid-Air Window Blowout After Reported Engine Debris Strike, Passenger Partially Pulled Outside Aircraft
Description: A Ryanair flight experienced a reported rapid decompression after engine debris shattered a cabin window. A passenger was partially pulled outside before fellow travelers helped save him.
A routine Ryanair flight turned into a terrifying ordeal after a reported rapid decompression shattered a cabin window shortly after takeoff, leaving one passenger partially pulled outside the aircraft before fellow travelers helped save his life.
Passengers described hearing what sounded like "a tire bursting" moments before chaos erupted inside the cabin. Seconds later, oxygen masks dropped from the ceiling as the aircraft experienced a sudden loss of cabin pressure.
According to Reuters, citing two industry sources, debris believed to have come from one of the aircraft's engines struck a window, causing it to shatter and triggering the rapid decompression.
One passenger recalled the horrifying scene:
«"The masks dropped... The head and shoulders of one passenger were outside the window. Fortunately, he hadn't taken off his seat belt."»
Greek media reported that the victim—a 61-year-old tourist from Serbia—was partially sucked toward the broken window. Fellow passengers, including his wife, reportedly held onto him until the aircraft safely turned around and returned to the departure airport.
Emergency crews responded after the aircraft landed safely. Authorities said the passenger suffered friction burns and was treated for shock but was otherwise in good condition.
The frightening incident has renewed concerns about in-flight safety and the dangers posed by rapid decompression, even though such events remain extremely rare in modern commercial aviation.
Investigators are expected to examine the aircraft to determine exactly what caused the reported engine debris strike and cabin window failure.
