Tinubu, APC Leaders Are Afraid of El-Rufai, ADC Chieftain Mohammed Barde Claims

An All Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain and retired broadcaster, Mohammed Barde, has alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and top leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are afraid of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, because of his growing political influence.
Speaking during an interview with Trust TV on Friday, Barde claimed that the legal challenges facing El-Rufai are politically motivated rather than based solely on judicial considerations.

According to him, the former Kaduna governor has become a major political force capable of unsettling the ruling party.

«"The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, is scared of Nasir, very, very scared of him. People in government are scared of Nasir. He has become an enigma to the APC and the Presidency. They don't want him to be free, and that's why they are keeping him there," Barde said.»

Barde argued that several former governors who have faced more serious corruption allegations continue to enjoy their freedom, while El-Rufai is facing prosecution. He suggested that the difference points to political persecution rather than equal application of the law.

When asked why other leading opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, have not faced similar legal actions, Barde maintained that El-Rufai's case is unique because of his political relevance and influence.

«"I believe Nasir is in this situation because the President and all the people in the APC are scared of him," he added.»

The retired broadcaster further claimed that El-Rufai played a key role in the political rise of President Tinubu and several other influential Nigerian politicians, arguing that his contributions have not been properly recognized.

Political Reactions Expected

Barde's remarks are likely to fuel fresh political debate as Nigeria's political landscape continues to evolve ahead of future elections. However, his claims remain allegations and have not been officially addressed by the Presidency, the APC, or El-Rufai's legal representatives.

What Do You Think?

Do you agree with Mohammed Barde's claim that President Tinubu and the APC are afraid of Nasir El-Rufai, or do you believe the former Kaduna governor's legal challenges are strictly a matter for the courts?
