Rather than relying solely on concrete drainage systems, the project adopts an innovative "Sponge District" model that uses wetlands, green corridors, swales, and natural waterways to reduce flooding, recycle rainwater, and improve the city's microclimate.

This environmentally friendly approach has reportedly earned recognition with a shortlist for the 2026 World Landscape Architecture Awards.

The project is being developed on land originally allocated to the Abuja Technology Village, which remained largely undeveloped for more than two decades.

Through reforms introduced by the Federal Capital Territory Administration under Minister Nyesom Wike, long-abandoned land allocations have been revived, regulatory bottlenecks removed, and infrastructure approvals accelerated to encourage large-scale investment.
