Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has issued an official statement distancing himself from comments attributed to one Ambrose Nwogwugwu regarding Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, following the musician's appeal over the upcoming Osun State governorship election.

In a press release issued on Thursday by the Governor's Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media, Oguwike Nwachuku, Uzodimma emphasized that he neither authorized nor endorsed Nwogwugwu's remarks, describing them as personal opinions that do not reflect his position or that of the APC Osun State Governorship Campaign Council.

The clarification comes amid growing political discussions ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun State.

Davido's Earlier Appeal

During a recent media briefing, Davido appealed to Governor Uzodimma, citing their family relationship through marriage. Referring to himself as an Imo State son-in-law, the award-winning musician said he holds the governor in high regard and urged him, as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Chairman of the APC Osun Governorship Campaign Council, to ensure a peaceful and transparent election.

The appeal quickly generated reactions on social media, particularly after comments allegedly made by Ambrose Nwogwugwu suggested Davido was engaging in emotional blackmail and should instead direct his appeal to Osun voters.

Governor Rejects Comments Linked to Him

In response, Governor Uzodimma categorically denied authorizing anyone to speak on his behalf concerning Davido's comments.

According to the statement, Nwogwugwu's remarks were entirely his personal views and should not be interpreted as representing either the Governor or the APC campaign organization.

The Governor stressed that it became necessary to publicly clarify the situation to prevent misinformation and stop what he described as deliberate attempts by mischief makers to distort the facts.
