Can Gonorrhea Make Your Baby Blind?

1. If contracted during pregnancy, gonorrhea can cause mouth sores, fever, and bloodstream infections. 

2. Untreated gonococcal infection in pregnancy has been linked to miscarriages, premature birth, and low birth weight. 

3. If the baby is born while the mother has an untreated infection, the baby may develop an eye infection or blindness.

4. Newborn eye infections caused by gonorrhea can lead to permanent eye damage or blindness.

5. The baby may also develop joint infections, and/or blood infections.
