Apple's Smart Glasses Roadmap Revealed: Four Models in Development, Vision Air and New Vision Pro Coming by 2028
Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has unveiled Apple’s ambitious roadmap for its smart glasses and Vision headset lineup, revealing a bold push into next-gen wearable tech. According to Kuo, Apple has no fewer than four smart glasses models in development, alongside major updates for its Vision series headsets.
The first Apple smart glasses will rival Ray-Ban Meta, boasting camera and video recording, integrated speakers, AI voice control, and various frame finishes. These are expected to enter mass production in Q2 2027, with 3–5 million units shipped that year. Kuo also predicts the overall smart glasses market could hit 10 million shipments by 2027, driven largely by Apple’s entry.
Apple is also working on XR (Extended Reality) glasses with LCoS displays, voice control, and gesture recognition—set for mass production in Q2 2028. Additionally, a separate “display accessory” glasses model that connects to the iPhone has been delayed beyond its original Q2 2026 window for further refinement.
On the Vision headset front, Apple is preparing to release an updated Vision Pro with the Apple M5 chip, expected to enter mass production in Q3 2025, with 150,000–200,000 units planned. Notably, no new Vision headset will launch in 2026, but Kuo says three new models are in development for 2027 and 2028.
Among them is the Vision Air, due in Q3 2027. It will be 40% lighter than the original Vision Pro (weighing around 600–650 grams), feature a magnesium alloy body, an iPhone-grade chip, and plastic optics to keep weight and cost down—targeting a more consumer-friendly price point.
Finally, a second-gen Vision Pro is on track for Q2 2028, with a refreshed design, upgraded M-series chip, and a more accessible price.
Apple's aggressive roadmap signals a growing focus on wearables, AI, and immersive computing, setting the stage for a potential boom in the smart glasses and XR markets.
