BMW iX3: The Game-Changing Neue Klasse Electric SUV Promising 800KM Range and 400kW Charging

The upcoming BMW iX3, built on the all-new Neue Klasse EV platform, boasts 800V charging, up to 800 km range, and futuristic tech like Panoramic Vision. Here’s what to expect from BMW's most important electric vehicle yet.

BMW is building serious anticipation around what could be its most revolutionary electric vehicle yet—the all-new BMW iX3, which will be the first production car built on the company’s Neue Klasse (New Class) platform. Unlike past BMW EVs adapted from gas models, the iX3 is a ground-up electric SUV, promising a major leap in performance, efficiency, and digital experience.
At the core of this next-gen electric SUV lies a centralized computing system BMW calls the “Heart of Joy.” Traditional cars use dozens of ECUs to manage different systems; the Neue Klasse platform replaces them with a single intelligent brain, reducing lag and optimizing response across all functions—from braking to infotainment.

Auto journalists who previewed the prototype praised the vehicle’s one-pedal driving mode, calling it one of the smoothest they’ve tested. Under the hood, dual electric motors produce 400 horsepower, delivering both power and all-wheel-drive traction.
The iX3 will be powered by BMW’s 6th-generation battery tech, with a roughly 100 kWh pack providing an estimated 644 km (EPA) or up to 800 km (WLTP) of range. Built on 800V architecture, the iX3 also supports 400 kW ultra-fast charging, allowing over 350 km of range to be added in just 10 minutes—a new benchmark in EV convenience.

Inside, the innovation continues with BMW Panoramic iDrive. Gone are traditional instrument panels—replaced with BMW Panoramic Vision, a full-width windshield base display. An optional 3D Head-Up Display adds an augmented reality-like experience by projecting key info directly onto the road ahead.
The dashboard features a rhomboid central touchscreen, while the steering wheel includes “shy-tech” haptic controls that light up only when needed—enhancing usability without adding distraction.

Two key unknowns still generate buzz: final design and pricing. While still camouflaged, the production iX3 is expected to closely resemble the bold styling of the Vision Neue Klasse X concept. Pricing remains a mystery, but experts predict it will land between the BMW X3 (€45,000) and the BMW iX (€67,600), depending on specs and trim levels.
With its innovative tech, outstanding range, and rapid charging capabilities, the BMW iX3 is shaping up to be a landmark electric SUV not only for BMW but for the entire industry.
