BMW iX3 to Launch with 800V Fast-Charging and 800km Range via Neue Klasse Platform
Electric vehicle charging is getting a major upgrade, and BMW is stepping up with its all-new iX3 SUV, the first model to debut on the automaker’s Neue Klasse platform. This next-gen EV architecture brings a host of innovations, including a high-performance 800V electrical system, enabling ultra-fast charging speeds and extended range.
A recent teaser video shows a camouflaged iX3 prototype reaching a peak charging rate of 403 kW, just over the promised 400 kW mark. This allows the SUV to gain up to 350 km of WLTP range in just 10 minutes, and go from 10% to 80% in 20 minutes — a huge leap compared to BMW's current EVs.
Despite its compact footprint compared to the larger iX, the iX3 boasts an impressive 800 km WLTP range, showcasing improved battery and powertrain efficiency. For global rollout, North American models will support the NACS port and be built in Mexico, while European versions with CCS2 ports will come from BMW's new Hungarian plant.
Importantly, BMW confirms the iX3 remains compatible with 400V charging stations, ensuring flexibility for drivers across varying infrastructure.
