Samsung One UI 8 Watch Brings New Health Features, Hints at Future Subscription Model for Samsung Health
Samsung has officially announced One UI 8 Watch, the next major software update for Galaxy Watches, set to debut in July with the launch of the next Galaxy Watch. The update introduces several new Samsung Health features, including Bedtime Guidance, Vascular Load, Running Coach, and Antioxidant Index — some of which are experimental and launching as Labs features.
In an interview with CNET, Dr. Hon Pak, Samsung’s Head of Digital Health, revealed that the company is actively exploring a Samsung Health subscription model, similar to Fitbit Premium and Garmin Connect Plus. While basic features will remain free, more advanced health insights could soon be locked behind a monthly paywall. However, premium Galaxy devices like the Galaxy Watch Ultra or the upcoming Galaxy Ring may include these advanced tools at no extra cost.
Currently, One UI 8 Watch is in beta testing in the US and South Korea, supporting devices as old as the Galaxy Watch5. That said, availability of the new features depends on hardware compatibility. For instance, Vascular Load and Antioxidant Index are limited to the Galaxy Watch Ultra due to its advanced LED sensors, while Running Coach will only work on the Galaxy Watch7 or newer.
