WhatsApp Rolls Out AI-Powered "Message Summaries" to Catch Up on Chats Faster

WhatsApp has officially launched a new feature called "Message Summaries", aimed at helping users quickly catch up on unread messages in chats. First spotted in testing last month, the feature is now live in stable release for users in the US (English only for now).
Powered by Meta AI and using Meta's Private Processing technology, the feature ensures your message summaries remain private. Even Meta or WhatsApp can’t access them—and neither can the people in your chats.

When enabled, tapping the unread message count in a chat generates a concise, bulleted summary of what you've missed. It’s designed to save time without compromising privacy.
The feature is optional and off by default. You can control which chats use AI features through the Advanced Chat Privacy settings.

WhatsApp says broader language and regional support is coming later this year.
