XPeng Teams Up with Huawei for Smart HUD in Upcoming EV – A Surprising Turn in China’s EV Landscape
In a move that has surprised many in the Chinese tech and EV sectors, XPeng has announced a new in-car HUD system powered by Huawei. Despite past rivalries, this marks a potential turning point in their relationship.
The announcement was made via XPeng’s official Weibo account, where a teaser image revealed that one of its upcoming EV models will feature a Head-Up Display (HUD) developed by Huawei. This smart display will project crucial driving data—like speed, range, and navigation—directly onto the windshield, enhancing safety and convenience for drivers.
What makes this collaboration so unexpected is the companies’ rocky history. In 2023, Huawei’s Richard Yu criticized XPeng CEO He Xiaopeng, sparking public friction. However, in early 2025, He posted a photo with Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei, hinting at a thaw in relations. That thaw now appears to be evolving into full-blown cooperation.
XPeng boldly declared in the post: “This industry hasn't seen any groundbreaking changes in a long time. Change starts now!” While HUDs aren’t new technology, their implementation using Huawei’s cutting-edge tech stack in XPeng vehicles could bring meaningful improvements.
Why This Matters:
Huawei is not aiming to build its own EVs but instead wants to become a core technology supplier to automakers. Its portfolio includes ADAS, LiDAR, intelligent software, and now, in-car display tech.
The XPeng-Huawei HUD will officially be unveiled at a launch event on June 5 at 2:30 PM Beijing time, where more details are expected.
This collaboration could mark a new era for both companies—and possibly set a precedent for more surprising alliances in China’s competitive EV market.
