All-New MG4 EV Breaks Cover in China with Sleek Design, Bigger Body, and Semi-Solid-State Battery Tech
The all-new MG4 EV has started showing up at dealerships across China ahead of its official launch, and it's already turning heads. Built by SAIC Motor, this latest model marks a major leap forward in MG’s quest to compete in the affordable EV market — with the BYD Dolphin squarely in its sights.
Bold New Design and Modern Styling
The 2025 MG4 EV gets a complete redesign, ditching the sharp edges of its predecessor for a sleeker, more aerodynamic profile. The front end is rounded and minimalist, featuring an illuminated MG logo — a signature element in today’s premium EV segment. New teardrop-style headlights and a sportier trapezoidal air intake on the bumper add a performance-ready vibe, while the rear flaunts a full-width taillight with arrow elements. It rolls on stylish 17-inch “petal-style” alloy wheels.
Bigger Dimensions, More Space
Size-wise, the new MG4 EV has grown. It now measures 4,395 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width, and 1,551 mm in height, with a longer 2,750 mm wheelbase. This makes it larger than both the outgoing MG4 and its primary rival, the BYD Dolphin — or BYD Dolphin Surf, as it's known in Europe.
Smarter Cabin with Oppo Integration
Inside, MG has completely overhauled the cabin. A clean and symmetrical dashboard layout is joined by a large central touchscreen and a separate digital driver’s display. Powered by the Qualcomm 8155 chip, the MG × Oppo smart cockpit delivers a seamless tech experience, with voice commands, gesture navigation, and deep app integration.
The MG4 also introduces luxury touches like leather upholstery, ambient lighting, chrome trim, and a 50W wireless charging pad. The drive selector is now mounted on the steering column to save space.
Comfort and Practicality
The new integrated sport-style front seats come with heating, ventilation, and power adjustability. Rear passengers enjoy a flat floor for better legroom, rear air vents, USB ports, and a panoramic sunroof with a retractable sunshade. The cargo area features a clever three-layer storage system, and the 60:40 split-folding rear seats add flexibility.
Rear-Wheel Drive and Next-Gen Battery Tech
Under the hood, the new MG4 EV is powered by a single rear-mounted motor producing 120 kW (163 hp), delivering classic rear-wheel-drive dynamics. More impressive is the structural battery pack — a cell-to-body (CTB) design — and the debut of MG's semi-solid-state battery technology, a first for the brand.
Two versions of the 70 kWh battery will be available, with CLTC-rated ranges of 437 km and 537 km, respectively. Fast charging support allows for a 30% to 80% top-up in just 20 minutes.
Launch Timeline
Pre-sales for the new MG4 EV begin August 5, with a full launch expected in early September. Pricing is yet to be confirmed, but MG is clearly positioning this as a direct challenger to the budget-friendly BYD Dolphin.
