Apple iPhone 17 to Feature New A19 Chip, 120Hz Display & Wi-Fi 7 – But Still No RAM Upgrade for Base Model
New details are emerging about the upcoming Apple iPhone 17, and there's a lot to unpack. According to analyst Jeff Pu, the base model will now be powered by the next-gen Apple A19 chip—not the A18 as previously rumored. The same chip will also feature in the rumored iPhone 17 Air.
Unfortunately, those hoping for a RAM upgrade on the vanilla iPhone 17 will be disappointed. The device is expected to retain 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM, just like its predecessor. On the other hand, the iPhone 17 Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max will feature 12GB RAM, with the Pro models using faster LPDDR5X memory for improved performance.
Apple is also reportedly going all in on connectivity. The entire iPhone 17 series may debut with Apple’s in-house Wi-Fi 7 chip, marking a significant leap in wireless technology.
On the display front, the base iPhone 17 could finally see a bump to a 6.3-inch OLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate. However, it will still lack LTPO tech—meaning no ProMotion support, which remains exclusive to the Pro models.
As for launch timing, Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 lineup on September 8.
