Apple’s First Foldable iPhone to Feature Crease-Free Samsung Display: What We Know So Far

A fresh wave of rumors has reignited excitement around Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone, expected to launch in the second half of 2026. This time, the buzz is about the display – and surprisingly, Apple is reportedly going with a crease-free folding screen designed entirely by Samsung Display.

This move is highly unusual for Apple, a company known for meticulously customizing nearly every component in its devices. However, for its first-ever iPhone Fold, Apple is said to be prioritizing stable mass production over custom engineering.

By adopting Samsung Display’s off-the-shelf crease-free panel, Apple aims to ensure higher manufacturing yields. This decision also gives a significant boost to Samsung Display’s supply chain partners, especially Fine M-Tec, which is poised to supply over 80% of the internal hinge components for the foldable iPhone.

According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Fine M-Tec’s internal hinge plays a critical role in preventing screen creases. The metal plate design helps distribute stress more evenly across the display, minimizing the chances of permanent folds.

To further reduce creasing, laser drilling will be used to create microscopic structures that guide stress and increase flexibility. Fine M-Tec is expected to begin shipping these high-precision metal plates by Q1 2026, with each unit costing around $30–$35.

Though 13–15 million display plates may be produced, this doesn’t reflect the actual iPhone Fold sales figures, as yield losses and repair stock inflate overall production needs.

Apple fans and tech enthusiasts alike are eager to see how this new foldable iPhone will compete in a maturing foldable smartphone market. If Samsung’s crease-free tech delivers as promised, Apple might just have a serious contender on its hands.
