BMW App Now Tracks Your Car’s Full Carbon Footprint – From Factory to Road
Most drivers think about fuel consumption when considering their car’s environmental impact—but that’s only part of the story. BMW is changing the game by offering a complete view of a vehicle’s carbon footprint directly in its My BMW and MINI apps.
With the latest update, users can now see CO2 emissions from both driving and production, giving them a full picture of their car's lifetime environmental impact. The popular “My Trips” feature now includes emissions from fuel or electricity used, as well as the carbon cost of manufacturing the vehicle.
For electric car owners, the app calculates emissions based on the national energy grid mix—and also shows what emissions would have been with 100% green energy. This dual view encourages more sustainable charging habits.
The production-related emissions—often overlooked—cover raw material processing, manufacturing, logistics, and final assembly. BMW works with TÜV Rheinland to certify these calculations, ensuring transparency and accuracy.
The new feature is available for a range of BMW and Mini models in Europe, including the BMW iX, 5 Series, X2, and Mini Countryman.
In addition, for those still driving gasoline cars, the app's Electric Vehicle Analysis simulates how well an EV would fit your current lifestyle based on your real-world driving data. It shows how many of your trips could be done on a single charge and maps nearby charging stations.
With over 100,000 customers already using the EV analysis tool, it’s clear that BMW’s digital approach to sustainability is gaining traction. This new carbon footprint tracker gives drivers valuable insights, empowering smarter, more eco-friendly choices.
