Range Rover Electric Launch Delayed to 2025 Despite 60,000+ Preorders

For the more than 60,000 eager buyers who’ve pre-ordered the first-ever Range Rover Electric, there’s disappointing news—Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has officially delayed the launch once again. Originally scheduled for 2024 and then postponed to late 2024, the all-electric Range Rover will now hit showrooms in 2025.
JLR says the delay is to allow for additional testing and refinement, ensuring the vehicle meets its high standards. CEO Adrian Mardell stated, “We’re not going to rush that transition; we are going to nail it.” This approach reflects a cautious but quality-driven EV rollout strategy.

The delay isn't limited to the Range Rover Electric. JLR is also reshuffling its entire EV roadmap, including:

The next-gen all-electric Jaguar, previewed by the "Type 00" concept, now launching in August 2026 instead of late summer 2026.

A second electric Jaguar pushed to December 2027.
The rumored smaller electric Range Rover, likely a Velar replacement, may also face delays beyond April 2026.

The all-electric Defender Sport has been moved to Q1 2027.

These changes come as JLR navigates several global challenges:

New U.S. import tariffs threatening profitability in its largest market

A weaker U.S. dollar impacting pricing

Slowing sales in China, where local luxury EV brands are gaining ground

Internal restructuring, including the elimination of 500 management roles
Interestingly, the official reason cited—waiting for EV demand to grow—doesn’t fully align with reality. The Range Rover Electric already has a robust waitlist of over 60,000 buyers. Delaying a model with such strong demand could frustrate potential customers and raise concerns about JLR’s strategic direction.

Nevertheless, the company appears to be prioritizing long-term brand integrity and performance over short-term gains. As the premium EV segment evolves, JLR wants to ensure its vehicles stand out in quality, luxury, and reliability—even if that means waiting a little longer.
