Galaxy Z Fold7 vs Honor Magic V5: Who Really Has the Thinnest Foldable Phone?

A video shared by trusted tipster Ice Universe sparked debate this week by claiming that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is actually thinner than the Honor Magic V5, despite official specs suggesting the opposite. According to Samsung, the Galaxy Z Fold7 measures 8.9mm when folded, while Honor lists the Magic V5 at a slimmer 8.8mm. So, what's going on here?
To clarify the confusion, Honor responded directly with caliper measurements showing the Magic V5 is indeed 8.80mm folded and 4.10mm unfolded, matching the official numbers. However, Ice Universe’s own measurements—done on the Ivory White Magic V5, the thinnest of its four color options—came out slightly thicker at 8.95mm, compared to 8.79mm for the Galaxy Z Fold7.
Honor explained that their official thickness excludes the inner and outer screen protective films, which are removable. Additionally, factors like manufacturing tolerances and minor measurement discrepancies can easily lead to slight variations in reported dimensions.

Here’s what Honor’s official statement on the global site says:
> “8.8mm refers to the thickness of the Ivory White model in the folded state. The overall thickness does not include the inner and outer screen protective films and the raised part of the camera. Actual data may vary depending on configurations, manufacturing processes, and measurement methods.”

The Ivory White variant is slimmer than the other three Magic V5 colors, which reportedly measure 9.0mm folded and 4.2mm unfolded.
At the end of the day, this debate is largely about bragging rights. In the real world, a 0.1mm difference is practically imperceptible, especially when comparing such premium foldable devices. Both the Galaxy Z Fold7 and the Honor Magic V5 are among the thinnest horizontal foldables ever made—and that’s what really counts for users.
