Huawei Leads as China’s Smartphone Market Dips Slightly in Q2 2025 – Canalys Report
China’s smartphone market, the largest in the world, saw a modest 4% year-over-year decline in Q2 2025, according to the latest report from Canalys. Despite the dip, China is still expected to outperform the global smartphone market by the end of 2025.
Huawei Takes the Lead
Huawei emerged as the top smartphone vendor in Q2 2025, shipping 12.2 million units, which gave it an 18% market share — a 15% year-on-year increase. The impressive performance was largely driven by strong demand for the HarmonyOS 5.0-powered Nova 14 series, which resonated well with domestic consumers.
Vivo Follows Closely
Vivo secured the second spot with 11.8 million units shipped, capturing a 17% share. Its success came from a strategic staggered rollout across its X200, S30, and Y300 series, which helped maintain consumer interest across multiple price segments.
Oppo (and OnePlus) in Third
In third place was Oppo, including its OnePlus-branded models, which collectively shipped 10.7 million smartphones, claiming 16% of the market.
Xiaomi and Apple Tie at Fourth
Xiaomi and Apple rounded out the top five with 10.4 million and 10.1 million units shipped, respectively, each holding a 15% market share.
Challenges Ahead
Looking forward, Canalys warns that smartphone vendors may face a slowdown in H2 2025, especially after a national subsidy program that boosted sales in H1 has ended. Maintaining momentum will be crucial as brands prepare for new product launches in the second half of the year.
