Kia EV2 Spotted Testing in Europe Ahead of 2025 Launch — Affordable Urban EV Incoming?
Kia’s smallest EV yet — the EV2 — has just been spotted undergoing testing in the Alps, donning German license plates and a thick layer of camouflage. Despite the disguise, its silhouette is unmistakable, carrying forward the same futuristic design DNA we’ve seen on the Kia EV3 and EV9. In fact, this emerging design language could soon make models like the EV6 seem slightly out of place — though some argue that the upcoming EV4 hatchback still echoes the EV6’s styling cues.
A Budget Urban EV with Big Ambitions
The Kia EV2 is being positioned as a direct rival to the Renault 5, targeting the compact EV segment. Despite its small footprint, don’t expect it to come too cheap. Rumors suggest a starting price of around €30,000, reinforcing the challenge non-Chinese automakers face in hitting sub-€25k price points without compromising heavily on range, interior quality, or performance.
Inside, the EV2 is expected to retain Kia’s signature tech layout — dual 12.3-inch screens, one for the instrument cluster and one for infotainment. What remains unclear is whether the car will also feature the 5.3-inch climate control screen, which until now has been reserved for higher-end Kia EVs.
Coupe Variant Incoming, EV1 Still in the Pipeline
Interestingly, a coupe version of the EV2 was recently spotted testing in Korea, pointing to a broader model lineup. As for the EV1, Kia has deliberately held off on using that name. But the company is reportedly considering a more affordable electric model, potentially priced under €25,000, to truly revolutionize urban electric mobility — though such a model is likely still years away.
For now, the EV2 is expected to officially launch sometime next year, and it could play a key role in Kia’s strategy to dominate the European EV market.
