Lucid Air Gains Access to Tesla Superchargers — But at a Major Speed Trade-Off

Lucid Motors has officially announced that starting July 31, its Lucid Air models will gain access to over 23,500 Tesla Superchargers across the United States, a significant move toward improving charging convenience for its EV customers.
Supercharger Access Starts July 31

This update comes as part of the broader industry shift toward the North American Charging Standard (NACS), originally developed by Tesla. While the upcoming Lucid Gravity SUV will ship with a native NACS port, current Lucid Air models will require an adapter to access Tesla's network.

The Catch: Charging Speed is Limited

Lucid will offer the required adapter for $220 (excluding taxes), but there's a major caveat:
Charging speed using the adapter is limited to just 50kW.

That’s a massive downgrade compared to the Air’s capability of 250kW–300kW at CCS fast-charging stations, depending on the specific trim.

Real-World Impact

Lucid claims that you’ll be able to gain up to 322 km (200 miles) of range per hour using the Supercharger with the adapter. However, this slower charging speed may discourage widespread adoption—especially for drivers accustomed to ultra-fast CCS chargers.

This decision might also impact Tesla Supercharger availability, with concerns that slow-charging Lucid vehicles could occupy Superchargers for extended periods, potentially frustrating Tesla owners who rely on high-speed sessions.

Strategic Move with Trade-Offs

Despite the performance compromise, the move ensures broader charging access for Lucid Air drivers—particularly useful in areas with limited CCS infrastructure. It also aligns Lucid with the growing trend of non-Tesla EVs adopting NACS compatibility.
