Lucid Gravity Joins Uber’s Autonomous Robotaxi Fleet: Launch Set for 2026 with Nuro Driver Tech

In a bold move that signals the future of ride-hailing, Lucid Motors announced today that its Gravity SUV will become a part of Uber’s upcoming fleet of autonomous robotaxis. The first self-driving Lucid Gravity units are expected to hit the roads sometime in 2026 in a major U.S. city—though the exact location remains unnamed.
20,000+ Autonomous Lucid Gravity SUVs Coming to Uber

Over the next six years, Uber plans to deploy 20,000 or more Lucid vehicles powered by Nuro Driver’s Level 4 autonomous driving system. These vehicles will operate in dozens of markets worldwide, offering fully driverless rides through the Uber app.

Lucid says the Gravity SUV is ideal for robotaxi use, citing its:

Advanced EV technology platform

Redundant safety systems

Long-range capabilities

Factory-Ready for Autonomy

The autonomous hardware will be installed directly at Lucid's factory during production, while Nuro’s software will be added later when Uber commissions the vehicle for deployment.

Lucid and Uber emphasize that this robotaxi experience is designed with comfort, safety, and scalability in mind. The vehicles will be operated by Uber or third-party fleet partners, and riders can expect a seamless integration through the existing Uber platform.

Prototype Already in Testing

The first Lucid Gravity robotaxi prototype is already undergoing autonomous testing on a closed track at Nuro's Las Vegas proving grounds, paving the way for real-world deployment.

Uber has also committed to making “multi-hundred-million dollar” investments in both Lucid and Nuro, signaling a major long-term commitment to building a scalable autonomous ride-hailing ecosystem.
