Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake: The World’s First Stylish Electric Wagon Debuts with 761 KM Range and AI Tech
Mercedes-Benz is redefining electric mobility and practicality with the official unveiling of the CLA Shooting Brake, the brand’s first-ever all-electric wagon. Designed to merge sleek aesthetics with real-world functionality, this stylish EV gives families and tech enthusiasts a fresh new reason to go electric — without compromising on space or performance.
Built on the next-generation Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA) platform, the CLA Shooting Brake supports advanced electric and hybrid drivetrains. At launch, buyers can choose between two all-electric trims:
CLA 250+ Shooting Brake: Rear-wheel drive, 200 kW (268 hp), with an incredible WLTP range of 761 km
CLA 350 4MATIC: Dual-motor all-wheel-drive, 260 kW (348 hp), with an estimated 730 km range
Both versions are powered by an 85 kWh lithium-ion battery using silicon-enhanced anodes, improving energy density. Thanks to an 800-volt electrical system, the CLA Shooting Brake supports ultra-fast charging at up to 320 kW, capable of adding 310 km of range in just 10 minutes.
Inside, the CLA Shooting Brake is a tech lover’s dream. The cabin features the futuristic MBUX Superscreen, with three seamlessly integrated displays powered by AI systems from Microsoft, Google Gemini, and ChatGPT-4o via the Unity engine. Other high-tech highlights include:
Biometric login
158-star ambient lighting display
100W USB-C ports
Electrochromic panoramic glass roof
12.2-inch head-up display
Despite its sleek profile, the car stays true to its “wagon” name. It offers 455L of trunk space, expandable to 1,290L with folded rear seats. There's even a 101L front trunk ("frunk") and an optional tow hitch capable of pulling 1,800 kg. A 61mm longer wheelbase improves passenger space and comfort.
Mercedes-Benz is expected to launch the CLA Shooting Brake in Europe by March 2026. For now, it has little direct competition — with only the Nio ET5 Touring offering a similar mix of EV tech and wagon practicality. However, BMW is rumored to be preparing an i3 Touring under its Neue Klasse lineup to challenge Mercedes’ head start.
Mercedes also plans to expand the MMA-based lineup with future plug-in hybrid variants and two new SUV models, ensuring the CLA Shooting Brake is just the beginning of this new EV chapter.
