Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 Drops S Pen Support, But Future Foldables Could Bring It Back
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is here, boasting a thinner and lighter design than its predecessors—but that sleeker profile comes at a cost. One major compromise? No S Pen support this time around.
Samsung has removed the digitizer layer from the folding display, which is essential for S Pen functionality. This may disappoint long-time Galaxy Note and Fold users who value stylus input. However, there’s still hope.
In an interview with Korean outlet ET News, Kang Min-seok, Managing Director at Samsung MX (Mobile eXperience), explained the rationale behind the move. “Consumers wanted a thin and light product,” Kang said. "We had to make trade-offs." He confirmed that while the Galaxy Z Fold7 skips the S Pen, Samsung is continuing R&D to bring it back in the future.
> “We are researching and developing thinner and innovative technologies for the S Pen, so we will reconsider it when the level of perfection increases and there is consumer demand.” – Kang Min-seok
What’s Missing in the Galaxy Z Fold7:
❌ No S Pen support
❌ No significant battery upgrade
❌ No improvement in charging speed
That said, Kang emphasized Samsung’s focus on achieving a "perfect product balance"—not just a thin and light form factor. This could mean that future Galaxy Z Fold devices may deliver larger batteries, faster charging, and yes, S Pen support once the technology evolves.
Galaxy Z Fold7 Price & Variants:
256GB + 12GB RAM – $1,999.99
512GB + 12GB RAM – $1,999.99
Despite the trade-offs, the Galaxy Z Fold7 remains one of the most premium foldables on the market. For users who can live without the stylus—for now—it’s still a powerful productivity beast.
