10-Year-Old Charged With Murder After 7-Month-Old Baby Fatally Shot in St. Louis Tragedy
A heartbreaking tragedy has shaken St. Louis after a 10-year-old child was charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 7-month-old infant, a case that authorities say is unlike any other in Missouri's history.
The victim, Kiyomi Parker, was shot on the afternoon of June 25 in the Baden neighborhood of St. Louis. Despite desperate efforts by police officers to save her life, the infant later died at the hospital.
Police Rushed Baby to Hospital in Race Against Time
According to St. Louis City Police spokesperson Mitch McCoy, officers responded quickly to the scene and immediately carried out a "scoop and go" rescue.
Instead of waiting for an ambulance, officers placed the critically injured baby in the backseat of a patrol vehicle and sped toward the hospital. An officer performed life-saving measures throughout the journey while fellow officers blocked traffic to clear the route.
Sadly, despite their efforts, Kiyomi Parker was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
10-Year-Old Arrested and Charged With Murder
Investigators arrested a 10-year-old suspect the following day. The child has since been charged with murder, making the case one of the most shocking juvenile crime incidents in recent U.S. history.
Research by First Alert 4 indicates that the child is believed to be the youngest person ever charged with murder in Missouri.
Missouri's Juvenile Law Changed in 2024
The case has also drawn attention to Missouri's juvenile justice laws.
Until 2024, the state had no minimum age for charging a child with a serious felony such as murder. A law enacted last year now sets 12 years old as the minimum age at which a juvenile can be certified to stand trial as an adult.
Legal experts say the current case is expected to raise difficult questions about juvenile justice, criminal responsibility, and gun safety involving children.
19-Year-Old Also Arrested on Gun Charges
Police also questioned and arrested a 19-year-old man, who is now facing gun-related charges connected to the investigation.
Authorities have not yet released additional details about how the firearm ended up in the hands of the 10-year-old or the circumstances leading to the fatal shooting.
Second Child Killed in St. Louis This Week
The devastating incident marks the second child to be fatally shot in St. Louis City within the same week, fueling renewed concerns over gun violence involving minors.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing, and additional information may be released as detectives continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
