Residents said the terrorists forcefully abducted an unspecified number of NECO candidates along with several teachers supervising the examination.

The victims were reportedly taken to an unknown destination, raising fears for their safety as security agencies intensify efforts to locate them.

One eyewitness described the terrifying scene:

«"The soldiers were not around when the terrorists invaded. They came in large numbers, firing sporadically and causing panic everywhere. They took away students writing NECO and their teachers."»

Teacher Killed During the Attack

Sources confirmed that at least one teacher was shot dead during the raid, although the exact number of casualties and missing persons remains unclear.

Residents continue searching for loved ones amid growing anxiety over the fate of those kidnapped.

Residents Question Military Absence

The incident has triggered outrage among community members, who alleged that Nigerian military personnel stationed in the area had left on patrol to nearby Uba, approximately 16 kilometres from Lassa, shortly before the insurgents attacked.

The reported absence of security forces has fueled criticism over the vulnerability of communities despite ongoing military operations against insurgent groups in the region.

Police Respond

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, confirmed that authorities were gathering information.

«"I will call you back," he said, adding that police were currently collecting evidence regarding the attack.»
