2027: Why Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki Is APC’s Best Bet to Retain Kwara, Group Tells Tinubu

The Kwara Young Progressive Forum and Good Governance Initiative has urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both the national and state levels to reconsider and reverse the decision to withdraw support for renowned industrialist and entrepreneur, Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki, as the party’s governorship candidate in Kwara State.
In a statement signed by its Convener, Dr. Adams Abdulwahab Opeyemi, the group warned that the APC could risk losing Kwara State to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 governorship election if urgent steps are not taken to address what it described as a “grave political error.”

The Forum expressed disappointment over what it called the unfair treatment of Ambassador Seriki, describing him as a loyal, dedicated, and influential member of the APC who has contributed immensely to the growth and success of the party.

“It is both unfortunate and counterproductive for a man of such integrity and commitment to be sidelined after years of sacrifice for the party. Actions like this weaken internal unity and strengthen the opposition,” the statement said.

According to the group, Ambassador Seriki remains the most formidable aspirant capable of leading the APC to victory in Kwara amid increasing political activities by opposition parties.

The Forum highlighted Seriki’s grassroots appeal, extensive empowerment programmes, and remarkable achievements in the private sector, noting that his business ventures have created thousands of jobs for Nigerians, including many Kwarans.

The group also credited him with playing a significant role in the historic “O To Ge” movement, which ended the long-standing dominance of the Saraki political structure and ushered in a new era of progressive governance in the state.

“Ambassador Seriki represents the hopes and aspirations of the youth. He has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of the people through practical empowerment initiatives that have transformed countless lives,” Dr. Opeyemi stated.

The Forum further appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC National Chairman, and other key stakeholders within the party to intervene before the deadline for candidate submissions to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

It stressed that restoring support for Ambassador Seriki would not only reflect the wishes of party members and supporters but also significantly improve APC’s chances of retaining power in Kwara State in 2027.

“The decision before the party is critical. Supporting Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki is the most strategic path to victory. Failure to act could hand the state over to the opposition. The time for decisive action is now,” the statement concluded.
