Presidency Says Peter Obi No Longer a Political Threat Ahead of 2027 Election

The Presidency has declared that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, is no longer a major political threat ahead of the 2027 general election, expressing confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure victory based on his administration's performance.

Speaking during an interview on Mic On Podcast with Seun Okinbaloye, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, said the Tinubu administration remains focused on governance rather than political distractions.
According to Dare, the government believes its achievements over the past three years have positioned President Tinubu strongly for the 2027 presidential election.

«"This government is not afraid of Peter Obi. He is not a nightmare to our government. Maybe before, Peter Obi was a threat, but right now, he is no threat because we stand on the solid ground of performance," Dare said.»

Tinubu Administration Confident in Its Performance

Dare maintained that the current administration has identified Nigeria's major challenges and continues to implement policies aimed at improving the country's economy, infrastructure, security, and overall development.

He stressed that the government has measurable achievements that it believes Nigerians will consider when they head to the polls in 2027.

«"We have been able to interrogate the problems of this country. Decisions are being taken, policies are being unfolded across the country, and we have a scorecard to show," he stated.»

Presidency Criticises Peter Obi's Public Statements

The presidential spokesman also criticised Peter Obi's public appearances and interviews, claiming that many of his responses lack clarity and fail to provide practical solutions to national issues.

According to Dare, Obi's political commentary often goes off-topic and does not resonate with the realities of governance.

«"Peter Obi is not a nightmare. Maybe you replace nightmare with nuisance because if you see some of his reactions, they are very pedantic. Sometimes you wonder. You listen to some of his interviews, ask him a question, and he goes in a roundabout direction that does not make sense," he said.»

Dare Predicts Tinubu Will Reclaim Lagos in 2027

Looking ahead to the next presidential election, Sunday Dare expressed confidence that Peter Obi would not repeat his 2023 electoral victory in Lagos State, where the former Anambra State governor defeated Bola Tinubu during the presidential poll.

He insisted that the political landscape has changed significantly since then.

«"Peter Obi defeated President Tinubu in Lagos in 2023. This is 2026; it can't happen again," Dare declared.»

2027 Election Expected to Be Highly Competitive

With political activities gradually gathering momentum ahead of the 2027 general election, comments from key political figures continue to shape public debate.

While the Presidency remains confident that President Tinubu's performance will earn him another mandate, opposition parties are expected to intensify campaigns as Nigerians prepare for what is likely to be one of the country's most closely watched elections.
