“Tinubu Is INEC Chairman Himself” — Adewole Adebayo Makes Bold Claim Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, has sparked political discussions after alleging that President Bola Tinubu possesses enormous influence over Nigeria's electoral process.
Speaking during an interview on Politics Hub, a programme on Vanguard, Adebayo claimed that Tinubu could "produce his own votes," controversially describing the president as the "INEC chairman himself."
The SDP chieftain made the remarks while discussing preparations for the 2027 general elections and his party's strategy for engaging Nigerians ahead of the polls.
According to Adebayo, political success cannot be achieved by remaining distant from the people. He stressed the importance of grassroots engagement, drawing comparisons with iconic First Republic leaders such as Obafemi Awolowo, Ahmadu Bello, and Nnamdi Azikiwe.
He noted that those leaders traveled extensively across the country, interacting directly with citizens and understanding their concerns firsthand. Adebayo said modern politicians must adopt a similar approach by meeting Nigerians where they live and work rather than relying solely on media campaigns.
The SDP presidential candidate added that he continues to travel across the country to understand the challenges facing ordinary citizens. According to him, effective leadership begins with identifying people's needs and maintaining close contact with communities.
As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, Adebayo's comments are expected to fuel further debate about electoral credibility, governance, and the future of Nigeria's democracy.
