The accident involved a white Sinotruk (CNHTC) Dangote truck with no visible registration number and a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus bearing registration number EKY 290 YM.
In a statement issued by the FRSC Public Education Officer, Afolabi Odunsi, on behalf of the Ogun Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, the crash involved 18 occupants.

Another six victims—made up of four adult males and two adult females—sustained varying degrees of injuries, while two adult males escaped without injuries.
FRSC Reveals Cause of the Deadly Crash
According to the FRSC, preliminary investigations indicate that the tragedy resulted from a combination of excessive speeding, wrongful overtaking and dangerous driving.
Officials explained that the truck driver allegedly reversed on the expressway after missing his route. At the same time, the speeding commercial bus attempted to squeeze through the available space but crashed violently into the truck.
The FRSC described the incident as another painful reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and ignoring traffic regulations.
Rescue Operation
FRSC rescue teams arrived at the scene shortly after the accident and evacuated the injured victims to Victory Hospital, Ogere, where they are receiving medical treatment.
The remains of the deceased were taken to FOS Mortuary, Ipara.
Meanwhile, officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Ishara Division, have taken custody of the damaged vehicles while arrangements were made to clear the accident scene, restoring normal traffic flow along the busy expressway.
FRSC Issues Fresh Warning to Motorists
Reacting to the tragic incident, Ogun Sector Commander Oludare Ogunjobi expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
He urged motorists—especially commercial drivers and truck operators—to avoid dangerous practices such as:
- Reversing on highways
- Speeding
- Wrongful overtaking
- Reckless and dangerous driving
The FRSC stressed that drivers who miss their routes should use designated turning points instead of reversing on expressways, noting that strict compliance with traffic laws remains the most effective way to reduce road crashes and save lives.
Road Safety Reminder
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway remains one of Nigeria's busiest highways, making responsible driving essential. Motorists are advised to obey speed limits, avoid risky manoeuvres and remain alert at all times to help prevent avoidable tragedies.
