Akpabio Predicts Opposition Will Cry Rigging if Tinubu Wins 2027 Election, Rallies City Boy Movement
Description: Senate President Godswill Akpabio says opposition parties will allege election rigging if President Bola Tinubu wins the 2027 presidential election. He urges the City Boy Movement to mobilise nationwide.
Akpabio Predicts Opposition Will Allege Rigging if Tinubu Wins 2027, Urges Nationwide Mobilisation
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has predicted that opposition political parties will accuse the ruling party of electoral manipulation if President Bola Tinubu secures victory in the 2027 presidential election.
Akpabio made the remarks on Wednesday while receiving members of the City Boy Movement, a pro-Tinubu support group, during a courtesy visit to his office at the National Assembly in Abuja.
As the Grand Patron of the movement, the Senate President encouraged members to intensify grassroots mobilisation across the country, expressing confidence that Tinubu would win a second term despite what he described as expected criticism from opposition parties.
Akpabio Calls for Polling Unit Mobilisation Ahead of 2027 Election
Speaking during the meeting, Akpabio urged the group to ensure the All Progressives Congress (APC) has representatives in every polling unit during the 2027 general election.
According to him, stronger grassroots coordination would help prevent a repeat of the alleged loss of votes experienced during the 2023 presidential election.
> "The City Boy Movement is like a wind blowing across the nation. You may not see it, but you can feel it. Every political party in Nigeria is already feeling the impact of the City Boy Movement."
He continued:
> "Never again shall we have a situation in any polling unit in Nigeria where Mr President will not have an agent because we have the City Boy Movement. In the last election, if your movement had existed, many of our votes that were not counted in many polling units would have been counted."
"Opposition Will Say the Election Was Rigged" – Akpabio
The Senate President also claimed that opposition parties would likely reject the outcome if Tinubu wins re-election in 2027.
> "When the victory of President Bola Tinubu is announced, you will hear people saying it is rigged, that they did this or that. Ignore all those things and remain focused," Akpabio said.
He urged supporters to remain committed to the campaign and continue mobilising voters nationwide.
Akpabio Advises Nigerian Youths to Avoid Cultism and Drug Abuse
Addressing young members of the City Boy Movement, Akpabio encouraged them to stay away from cultism, drug abuse, terrorism and other social vices.
He said Nigerian youths have an important role to play in shaping the country's political future through active participation in democratic processes.
According to him, it would be unfortunate for young people with leadership potential to derail because of poor personal choices.
Akpabio also assured members of the movement of his full support as they work toward Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027.
City Boy Movement Seeks Stronger Partnership with National Assembly
Earlier, the Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Francis Shoga, said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the National Assembly and the organisation ahead of its nationwide mobilisation activities.
Shoga said the movement plans to expand its programmes across Nigeria, deepen civic engagement among young people and contribute to national development.
> "We seek your continued guidance and support as we expand our programmes across the country, deepen civic engagement among young Nigerians and contribute meaningfully to national development," he said.
2027 Election Campaign Momentum Builds
Akpabio's comments come as political stakeholders and support groups begin early mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election.
While the Senate President expressed confidence in President Tinubu's chances of securing a second term, opposition parties are also expected to intensify preparations as Nigeria moves closer to another highly anticipated presidential contest.
