Peter Obi Says Tinubu Is ‘Tired,’ Urges President to Leave Office After 2027, Slams Rising Poverty and Insecurity

Description: Peter Obi says President Bola Tinubu is "tired" and should leave office after the 2027 elections, accusing his administration of worsening poverty, insecurity, and economic hardship across Nigeria.
The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has declared that President Bola Tinubu is "tired" and should step aside after the 2027 general election, arguing that Nigeria needs new leadership to tackle worsening economic and security challenges.

Speaking during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Obi stressed that his ambition is not driven by a personal desire to occupy the presidency but by a commitment to seeing Nigeria function effectively.

The former Anambra State governor launched a strong criticism of the Tinubu administration, alleging that government policies have significantly increased poverty, weakened businesses, and deepened insecurity across the country.

According to Obi, millions more Nigerians have fallen below the poverty line since Tinubu assumed office, while the country's security situation has continued to deteriorate.

«"Tinubu is tired and needs to go home and rest. When Tinubu came into power, 87 million Nigerians were in poverty, but today it's 140 million.»

«"Insecurity has gotten worse. Which hope are they going to renew again? You can't renew failure."»

Obi also maintained that he is not desperate to become Nigeria's president, insisting that leadership should be about solving national problems rather than pursuing political ambition.

«"I am not desperate to be President of Nigeria. There's a way you will fail in school, they will ask you to leave the school."»

Highlighting the economic struggles facing many Nigerians, Obi claimed that several entrepreneurs who once ran successful businesses have been forced into smaller-scale trading to survive.

«"People who had business when you came into power are now people who are selling kuli-kuli."»

His remarks add to the growing political debate ahead of the 2027 general election, with opposition figures increasingly scrutinizing the Tinubu administration's handling of the economy, inflation, unemployment, and insecurity.

The presidency has consistently defended its reforms, arguing that the economic measures introduced by the administration are necessary to stabilize the economy and deliver long-term growth despite the short-term hardship experienced by many Nigerians.
